Three Koreans kidnapped in Egypt's Sinai peninsula
Feb 10, 2012, 16:42 GMT
Al-Arish, Egypt - Three Korean tourists were kidnapped along with their Egyptian tour guide on Friday near the Saint Catherine Monastery area, in Egypt's South Sinai province, security sources said.
The kidnappers stopped the tourist bus, took the four and escaped, the sources added, without specifying whether the tourists came from North or South Korea.
Friday's incident is the latest in a series of abductions by tribesmen protesting against the detention of their relative by the police.
Last week, two US tourists were abducted in the same area but were released hours later.
On Thursday, tribesmen briefly kidnapped 17 Egyptian security guards after clashes with security forces.
Security has been a major concern since the ouster of Hosny Mubarak last year, with crime soaring despite promises by the government to plug a nationwide security vacuum.
