Three Koreans released after abduction in Egypt's Sinai peninsula
Feb 11, 2012, 21:33 GMT
Al-Arish, Egypt - Three Korean tourists were released on Saturday, a day after they were kidnapped by armed tribesmen in Egypt's South Sinai province, state media reported.
An Egyptian tour guide who was abducted with them was also released, Al Ahram newspaper reported.
On Friday, the kidnappers stopped a tourist bus, took the four and escaped, the latest incident in a series of abductions by tribesmen protesting against the detention of their relative by the police.
Last week, two US tourists were abducted in the same area but were released hours later. On Thursday, tribesmen briefly kidnapped 17 Egyptian security guards after clashes with security forces.
Security has been a major concern since the ouster of Hosny Mubarak last year, with crime soaring despite promises by the government to plug a nationwide security vacuum.
