Cairo- Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi has nominated a former Jordanian foreign minister, Abdul Ilah al-Khatib, as the organization's envoy to Syria, Egyptian state television reported Sunday, quoting Arab League sources.
The nomination must now be endorsed by Arab foreign ministers currently meeting in Cairo to discuss the Syrian crisis.
Al-Arabi, meanwhile, accepted the resignation of Sudanese General Mohammed al-Dabi as head of the League's observer mission to Syria. No reason was given for the resignation.
