Arab Leagues approves call to send peacekeepers to Syria
Feb 12, 2012, 18:48 GMT
Cairo - The Arab League's foreign ministers approved a document Sunday calling on the United Nations Security Council to form a joint Arab-UN peacekeeping forces to observe a ceasefire in Syria.
'The league emphasizes it is keen to continue Arab efforts to find a peaceful solution in Syria and achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people for reform, change and a peaceful transition to a sound democratic life,' read a statement issued by the Arab League after a meeting in Cairo.
The Syrian government rejected the Arab League's proposals, describing them as 'a hostile act that targets Syria's stability and security,' according to Syrian state television.
