Feb 13, 2012, 14:16 GMT
Cairo - A United Nations consultant was shot dead while driving in Cairo by an armed group trying to steal her car, according to a message posted Monday on the UN's Egyptian website.
Nirmeen Khalil was killed on Sunday in the upscale neighbourhood of Mohandessin from a car that was driving next to her.
Khalil's death is the latest in a series of worrying crimes that have spread across Egypt since the ouster of Hosny Mubarak last year, despite promises by the government to address possible a possible security vacuum.
Tourists visiting the Sinai peninsula have fallen victim to a series of abductions by armed tribesmen in recent weeks.
