Amnesty accuses Egypt of failure to rein in security forces
Feb 22, 2012, 15:06 GMT
London - Egypt's security forces continue to 'kill protesters with the same brutal tactics' used by the former regime of Hosny Mubarak, Amnesty International alleged Wednesday.
The human rights group said riot police used excessive force in protests in Cairo and Suez, which followed the death of more than 70 football fans in Port Said in early February.
The behaviour of the security forces in dealing with the protests had been 'very reminiscent of a time many Egyptians thought they had left behind,' said Amnesty.
'Promises of reform of the security forces continue to ring hollow in the face of the killing of more than a hundred protesters in the last five months,' it said in a statement released in London.
