UN-Arab League envoy meets with UN Security Council powers

New York - Kofi Annan, the United Nations-Arab League joint special envoy for the Syrian conflict, held talks Thursday with the five UN Security Council permanent members.
Annan met with the ambassadors of the United States, Britain, Russia, China and France at UN headquarters one day after he assumed the difficult task of mediating an end to the year-old conflict in Syria. He was also to discuss Syria by telephone with Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi before leaving for Cairo.
