Black bear kills six-year-old girl in Tennessee

Washington - A black bear attacked a family in Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee, killing a six-year-old girl, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported Friday.

The child\'s mother and two-year-old brother remained in critical condition Friday after the bear attack, which occurred Thursday afternoon according to forest officials.

The incident took place on Chilhowee Mountain near a campsite which has since been closed, while forest officials continued on Friday to search for the bear.

Bear attacks in the area are a rare occurrence but they do happen, officials said, quoted by the Times Free Press.
