Pakistan conducts successful launch of short-range missile
Dec 9, 2006, 13:28 GMT
Islamabad - The Pakistan Army's Strategic Force Command conducted the successful launch Saturday of a short-range ballistic missile Hatf-3 (Ghaznavi), the military said.
With a range of 290 kilometres, the missile was fired during the culmination phase of the Strategic Force Command's training exercises.
The launch was the third in a series, as intermediate-range ballistic missiles Hatf-4 (Shaheen-I) and Hatf-5 (Ghauri) were successfully fired last month. The two nuclear-capable missiles can accurately hit targets at up to 700 kilometres and 1,400 kilometres, respectively.
On November 27, Pakistan's neighbour India test fired two Prithvi missiles with a maximum range of 250 kilometres.
The archrivals first conducted nuclear test detonations in May 1998.
