Four killed, 29 wounded in suicide attack in southern Afghanistan
Dec 14, 2006, 15:17 GMT
Kabul - A suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vest he was wearing Thursday, killing four people and wounding 29 in southern Afghanistan, the Interior Ministry said.
The attack took place in Qalat, the capital city of Zabul province. Zemarai Bashary, Interior Ministry spokesman, said the four people killed were civilians and three police officers were among the wounded.
The apparent target of the attack was a police vehicle, and three of its occupants were wounded, Bashary said.
Afghanistan has seen more than 100 suicide bombings this year, a record number.
More than 3,900 people, including 1,000 civilians, have been killed in militant-related incidents this year in Afghanistan, four times greater than in 2005.

The regretably widely reported figures of some 4,000 person being killed in Afghanistan during 2006 are pure speculation. They are grossly inflated by Vietnam era-style body counts by the US/NATO occupation forces. Once in a great while, these forces 'adjust' their so-called count as done recently when again an initially widely reported figure of 80 Taliban being killed was revised to EIGHT, that is, one-tenth the original figure broadcast by US/NATO propaganda spokespersons in Kabul and Kandahar. So, think twice and recall the Vietnam 'body counts' when you hear about these hyped figures of thousands of 'Taliban' being killed. They are pure propanda put out to paint an image of success.
