LTTE condemns GoSL for endangering the lives of foreign diplomats
Military Spokesman of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Irasiah Ilanthirayan, expressing deep regret for the injuries caused to the foreign diplomats who landed in the military airfield of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) in Batticaloa and the Weber Stadium where 23-3 Brigade Commander's military headquarters is located, condemned the Government of Sri Lanka for having endangered the lives of foreign diplomats bringing them into the artillery launchpads inside the military zone without following diplomatic procedures.

'We immediately ceased the fire as soon as we were notified of the presence of foreign diplomats under artillery fire, by Mr. Marian Din, the UN official for coordinating security arrangments here in Kilinochchi,' Mr. Ilanthirayan said.
'We are shocked by the grave negligance of the security arrangments for the diplomats by the Sri Lankan government that has transported the delegation into the artillery launchpads amid the prevailing atmosphere of provocative artillery attacks.' LTTE's military spokesman further said.
There is a procedure in practice, of informing the LTTE in advance, when foregin diplomats and NGO officials are scheduled to visit war zone. Liberation Tigers Liaison Officer for UN and NGO affairs gets informed with details of the officials and their belongings. The Sri Lankan military establishment has ignored the practice in Batticaloa, he charged.
'This is a simple procedure that has been intentionally ignored in Batticaloa by the Sri Lankan military.'
'We condemn the GoSL in strongest possible terms for seeking to sabotage LTTE's relationship with the foreign missions and the International Community.'
'This is also a criminal act of failing to follow the procedures in place by the Sri Lankan military which is engaged in a self-proclaimed war in the entire Batticaloa district,' LTTE spokesman said.
The LTTE was responding to hostile artillery and mortar attacks Tuesday morning, he said.
The aircraft carrying foreign diplomats had landed in the military airfield of the Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) and two helicopters had landed inside the main military camp in Batticaloa city.

Unannounced air craft landing in Batticaloa comes under LTTE fire
Two air crafts that landed in two military installations in Batticaloa came under LTTE fire this morning at 9.30am. One aircraft landed in the Batticaloa military air strip and the other landed inside the Batticaloa military Head Office premises.
In recent times the Batticalo air space has only been used by the Sri Lankan military. The two landing sites, the Batticaloa air strip and the military head office complex are used for military purposes only. The air strip was also used to bring military supply. Sri Lankan military also uses these two locations as artillery positions. Even this morning there was provocative shelling by the Sri Lankan military in Batticaloa.
LTTE military spokesman, S Ilanthirayan, expressed shock and sadness that Sri Lankan Government has exposed senior diplomats to danger by allowing air crafts carrying them into an area where they have declared military operations without informing LTTE in advance. He added that this is criminal negligence on the part of the Sri Lankan government. He said that simple diplomacy could have avoided the unfortunate incident and condemned the childish action of the Sri Lankan military.
Ilanthirayan noted that a channel of communication exists between the LTTE and UN agencies and the ICRC for exchanging flight information when flying to the Palaly military airport in Jaffna. This well established and effective channel is operated through the LTTE Secretariat for Liaison with UN and International Agencies in Kilinochchi. No such channel of communication has been opened regarding Batticaloa airspace.
Indeed, immediately after the event, Marian Din Kajdomcaj, Head of UN Security, contacted M Pavarasan of LTTE Liaison office and the shelling was stopped immediately and the air crafts with foreign diplomats were able to take off safely.
Kajdomcaj thanked Pavarasan of LTTE for the prompt action and acknowledged their failure to warn LTTE about the flight in advance.
Exploiting the halting of shelling by LTTE, Sri Lankan military has begun shelling again and latest report is that there has been aerial bombing in Batticaloa as well since than.
Sri Lankan government simply didn't inform the Tigers about the travellers!!

They will put a group of diplomats in danger to gain 'support' to wipe out the minority Tamils.
Poor ltte didn’t know that, there were international delegation of diplomats in the area.. what a crap.. everybody, specially people whose displace by recent warfare in the area waiting for the international diplomats to come and visit them, and ltte's secret services didn’t know about that.... that’s why I said they are talking crap. Actually what happened was ltte knew they were coming and that’s shows when they launched a attack soon after the helicopters were landed. what they were doing is deliberately attacked the international convoy and wanted to blame the government saying government put their life in danger as well as they wanted to show international community that they are not out of the area. They also claimed that was an air field which is belonging to air force. Fact is helicopters landed on public sport ground where the innocent people waiting for the visitors.
ltte might thinking they planed a master mind job. But every body looking at this understand how stupid they are. But im not surprised by this attack. They are loosing tie with international community, loosing ground(they said tactically withdraw with leaving behind vast amount of arms and explosives), running out of arms, lack of soldiers and many more things put ltte leadership in under pressure. They want to show something to their Diaspora whose sending them money to do the war. This pressure make them do any stupid thing they could do. This is not the only one of stupidities ltte have done and many more to come. Once again they showed the world they are nothing but barbaric terrorist group.
I am glad sri lankan army and government is doing everything they can to root out the terrorist LTTE. As sri lankans tamils, sinhala people of sri lanka, we should unite and fight the war on terror.

As for this incident, the US will step up their efforts to wipe out all LTTE supporters in USA. All financiers acting under the umbrella of relife for tamil refugees and orphanages.

The LTTE does everything deliberately, even this attack has the hallmarks of what they do; attack first, cause the maximum damage and then shed crocodile tears. They have done this for over 25 years and are the masters of the game. There is no point in arguing for diplomatic recognition for a group of cowardly murderers who hide in a jungle an dtarget innocent people, attempting to justify a genocidal agenda with platitudes of self-appointed 'saviourship' of an unwilling people. If the tamils had any say in the tigers claim to being the solse representative, the big tiger would get a kick in the butt. Whether people like it or not, the LTTE will always achieve what it wants to, one way or other. In this case, the people of the region who are no longer under the guidance and patronage of the LTTE are likely to be misinformed and misguided by the westernized ideologies of the sinhala people. As the true representatives of the tamil people, the tigers cannot allow that. Tamils must live according to our old traditional ways and must remain loyal to the tigers. Even if a few have to be punished to establish the need for order in society, the tigers are capable of doing that.
In this case, the government was bringing the forigners to the area to show them how the tamil people have been 'liberated'. Tamil people do not want to be liberated. We want to live according to the traditional ways, represented by our Supreme leader. Those who violate our ways are traitors and will be severely punished.
By taking decisive action against these unwelcome foreigners, the LTTE saved the tamil people from being shown around as a 'liberated' group of people. Even if the LTTE loses the war, they won the battle today by kicking the foreigners out.

Sri Lanka admits 'criminal negligence'
A statement issued by the Sri Lanka Defence Ministry admitted on Tuesday that the military knew of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) heavy gun positions in the Thopigalla area, North-West of Batticaloa Town, prior sending foreign diplomats in military attack helicopters to a military base in Batticaloa Town.

Ambassadors from the United States and Italy were injured when an artillery duel sparked off between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan military on Tuesday morning.
Liberation Tigers stopped shelling after the United Nations had informed them of the presence of foreign diplomats in the Sri Lankan military base.
Later on Tuesday, Liberation Tigers expressed regret for the injuries caused to the diplomats and accused the government of Sri Lanka of having deliberately placed the diplomats in harms way by transporting them to a military base in a war zone.
Liberation Tigers said in a statement that when diplomats visit the Jaffna peninsula, the Untied Nations and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) convey the message and bring temporary halt to hostilities.
However, on this occasion the usual practice did not take place, LTTE sources noted.'The so called trip may have in-fact been a trap by the government of Sri Lanka to have the international diplomats killed and western wrath turned on the Liberation Tigers,' senior analysts DJ Jaryraj told TamilEditors.'The government of Sri Lanka has some explaining to do,' a foreign official told TamilEditors on condition of anonymity.'The government should not be sending senior diplomats to battle zones, where it is clearly not in control of events,' the official added.
Meanwhile the European Union has called for an end to the violence, and strict adherence of the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA).
In recent months the Sri Lankan military has captured the eastern coastal strip from Sampoor to Pachenkerni from the LTTE in total violation of the CFA.
