Karzai says kidnapping deal "will not be repeated" (Extra)

Apr 6, 2007, 14:35 GMT

Kabul - Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Friday that his country was in 'peculiar compulsion' to free five captured Taliban members to secure the release of an Italian journalist and vowed that such as action would not be 'repeated.'

The Islamic extremist Taliban kidnapped an Italian journalist, Daniele Mastrogiacomo, along with her Afghan colleagues last month but later released the Italian citizen after Afghan government freed five captured Taliban members.

Prior to Mastrogiacomo's release, Taliban beheaded his driver Sayed Agha, while his interpreter Ajmal Nagshbandi remains in rebel custody.

'This was a very extraordinary case and was very peculiar and was because of some peculiar compulsion, and in future this action will be never be repeated, will not be done in any case, will not be done with anybody, and will not be repeated because of any country,' Karzai told a press conference in his Kabul presidential palace.

This is the first time that top Afghan official admitted releasing the five Taliban, including the insurgents' former spokesman and brother of Taliban's regional commander south, Mullah Dadullah.

'Despite knowing what would be the consequences of this deal, we handed over some captured Taliban so they would free the Italian journalist,' Karzai said.

He said the Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi had personally called him and asked several times as Prodi's government was on verge of collapse.

Karzai called Italy a good supporter of Afghan government and said 'it has some 1,800 troops in Afghanistan. They're building our Kabul- Bamyan province roads. This was their right to ask us for help and we should have responded positively,' he said.

His blunt refusal for any further more hostage deals comes two days after Taliban claimed to have abducted two French aid workers along with their three Afghans in western Afghanistan.

Though the Taliban have not demanded anything for the release of French nationals, the rebels still hold Afghan interpreter Nagshbandi captive and have repeatedly called on Afghan government for a similar deal.

The rebels also kidnapped five Afghan medical workers in southern Kandahar province last week and asked the government to release two Taliban prisoners in exchange for their freedom. The case has yet to be finalized.

Karzai admitted that his government was widely criticized and said that such a deal in future 'is not possible.'

Thats what happened when you give in the first time, never deal with terrorist,

Italy and French does not care if your country burn in hell, they care about their citizens only and their political agenda's but they don't realized the grave situations that will turn against them someday.

They did that to the philippines when their citizens was kidnapped by the Islamist terrorist 'Abusayef', they give them millions of dollars to release their citizens, and what happened, this terrorist bought more sophisticated arms and weapons, bought boat with complete electronic gadget more sophisticated than the Philippine government can afford, now they are looking for more Italians and French nationals for ransom.

So now, do you think Italy and French care? I don't think so.

Isreal and the US along with most civilized countries have figured out long ago that making deals with the devil is impossible. The devil in this case the Taliban and Al Queda, they will never stop kidnapping if the government of Afganistan and or Iraq and or Pakistan give in to these mercyless blood thursty murders, who spew their form of hatred and call it Islam. They are the worst form of cowards and truley should not call themselves Muslims, if anything they should call them selves what they truely are, idiots.

Ditto Ali Baba. If it is not kidnappings, al-Qaeda and the Taliban find devilish ways to assassinate people like Ahmed Shah Massoud. There is no point in dealing with such people in a reasonable, quid pro quo way.

No Sarah the Devil is ignorance, as long as despots can control societies thru politics or religions then they control everything. Whether or not Jews are to blame for anything depends only on what you have been taught. If you have been taught intolerance then these are your beliefs. It is far too easy to blame Jews for the worlds miseries instead of blaming the people how control the upbringing of the next generation and those that preceded them. If you are taught hate you will believe hate. Devils have been in charge of madras’s and schools for both Muslims and to a lesser degree Christians for too many years. Look at how Hitler raised a generation of blond hair blue eyed believers, in just a few short years. These devils have had way to long to control the Muslim youth. Sarah I don't think you know much about Jesus and his toilet habits to say what he would or wouldn't have shat on.

Sarah,

So I just want to confirm that the Jews from WWII put themselves into the concentration camps and gasses and murdered themselves? Oh and I guess all the persecution stemming back to biblical days ie. the Egyptians and all the hatred from the Arabs towards the Jews is just fabricated? I have never seen someone be able to tattoo an imprisonment number so straight and even on their own arm- I guess that is fabricated as well- Boy the efforts the Jews will go to throw idiots like you off in believing they started their own war against themselves and everyone else- From the sounds of your spewing- you don't know Jesus at all- maybe you should read the part of his word that says not to judge- I am not judging you but merely making an observation that you are deluded if you think the Jews brought things on themselves and started
