Four killed in militant attack on Pakistani border forces
Apr 29, 2007, 12:23 GMT
Islamabad - A security officer and three gunmen were killed during a militant attack Sunday on an outpost near Pakistan's border with Afghanistan, news reports said.
A unit of the Frontier Corps came under fire from rockets and small arms in the village of Naray Dhoke in North Waziristan, the Online news agency and other media reported.
North Waziristan is in Pakistan's tribal belt where the Taliban and allied factions are claimed to run bases for the campaign against foreign and government forces in Afghanistan.
The Pakistani government in Islamabad last year concluded much criticized peace treaties with local tribes in a bid to contain the movement of Taliban fighters in the area.
