Comrades of beseiged militants kill four Pakistani soldiers
Jul 6, 2007, 10:55 GMT
Islamabad - At least four soldiers were killed Friday in Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province in a bomb attack apparently carried out by militants who support the radical Islamic students at a besieged mosque in Islamabad.
An explosion targeted military convoy near Chakdara in Swat District, a security official told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa on condition of anonymity.
Four soldiers were killed and several more were injured, some of them critically, he added.
Those soldiers were recently deployed in the area after local cleric Fazalullah, of the banned extremist Islamic organization Nifaz Shariat -I- Mohammed, announced his support for the students of Lal Masjid Red Mosque, which is the scene of running battles between militants and security forces since Tuesday morning.
The radical cleric also threatened to carry out attacks on Pakistani security forces if the siege of the Red Mosque was not ended.
The warning preceded three attacks on police officials in Swat district over the last three days, which have left six people killed including two policemen.
'It will be premature to say who might have carried out the attack,' the security official said, but he did not rule the possible involvement of sympathizers of Red Mosque students.
The hardcore militants at the mosque have exchanged heavy fire with hundreds of military and paramilitary troops that has killed at least 19 people.
The leaders of the Red Mosque vow to implement strict Islamic Sharia law 'in every inch of Pakistan.'
Students affiliated with the mosque's madrassa have threatened music store owners to stop selling 'un-Islamic' goods, have ordered women not to drive, and have abducted alleged prostitutes in recent months.

It says: 'The leaders of the Red Mosque vow to implement strict Islamic Sharia law in every inch of Pakistan.'
Woha, just like Puritan separatists in the 1600s that colonized the United States. Trying to escape persecution and in the process persecuting everything in sight including themselves. I'm glad I don't live in that country. I wish the Pakistanis the best of luck. Too bad they are falling on bad times, but they can learn from U.S. history if they wish. On the other hand, the Puritans, et. al. wiped out the pagans and helped to make a glorious Christian nation so perhaps the Red Mosque have something there. We'll need to check back in 400 years.
BR's comments says it all ... God fearing people traveling 10,000 miles to Vietnam to wipe out godless commies. And then stating that no God justifies such inherent cowardice and murder. If U.S. soldiers didn't hide behind napalm, carpet bombing and air to surface missiles and rather fought those Vietnamese hand to hand then the Vietnam war would have been even more of a U.S. loss. The U.S. casualties would be in the millions, not just tens of thousands. The fact is, such unbridled call to action often shows great contradictions.
If only the conflict in Northwest Pakistan was so simple, one could believe Lance's rhetoric. The truth is, vulnerable populations should be protected. When these people become victims of murder or 'the Islamic-warrior
sheilding technique' as has been widely practiced by al Qaeda and other angry arabs (Baathists inside Kuwait and Iraq), and Viet Cong or Chechens (note Beslan child victims), the world's 'Haves' retribution should be a swift and if necessary, mechanized destruction. The 'Haves' have been battling the 'have- nots' for centuries, i.e., the British suffering defeat vs. the American 'upstart' colonists. (We were once have nots but then, reversed our plight then got into the habit of helping other 'Have-nots' in many wars since.)
Oh yes, some can call the American military Godless but, with or without God's support, Hitler , Tojo and Mussolini remain very read along with their beliefs vs. 'real freedom.' Many of us 'Nam vets' did not hide behind machines and we did very well, thank you!

If the Vietnamese actually came out and fought like men instead of hiding in tunnels, infiltrating, planting bombs and running away and using gorilla tactics the war would have been over in a weelk with a resounding US victory. Lance, you are an idiot and a pussy.

Here's the battle and the lines are drawn very clearly. Religious fanaticism vs. National Sovereignty of Pakistan (and the rest of the non-religious/zealous world for that matter). If rational people can justify hiding behind children to save their own skin and claim that religion makes this just, I will suit up again and put my rifle back into action as I did in 1967 and 1968 and destroy such people myself.
No God justifies such inherent cowardice and murder. Godspeed Pakistani troops and your leadership. Your cause is just.
