Pakistani villagers kill 103 snakes in a single day
Jan 29, 2008, 7:17 GMT
Islamabad - Rural villagers in the eastern Pakistani province of Punjab killed 103 snakes in a single day, media reports said Tuesday.
The onslaught began when a snake appeared as a labourer was digging with a spade to strengthen the bank of a canal in a village near Shaiwal on Monday morning.
He killed the 2-metre snake immediately, but several more snakes emerged, the Dawn newspaper reported.
Dozens of villagers gathered at the site and had killed 103 snakes by afternoon.
The presence of large numbers of snakes spread panic among the villagers, who were moving temporarily to the nearby neighbourhoods.
