Norway Kabul embassy remains closed after terrorist threat
Feb 11, 2008, 12:04 GMT
Oslo - The Norwegian embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul was closed Monday and staff have been evacuated to a secure location over a terrorist threat, a Norwegian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
Spokeswoman Hilde Klemetsdal declined to give further details of the threat, who had sent it or where the staff were located.
Oslo had already closed the embassy Sunday, saying it was looking into the threat that was regarded as serious.
The Norwegian Church Aid that funds aid programmes in Afghanistan said Monday it had also decided to close its office in Kabul after consulting the Foreign Ministry.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store survived a bomb attack on the Hotel Serena in Kabul in mid-January where seven people died, including a Norwegian newspaper reporter.
Norway has 500 soldiers in Afghanistan, including a rapid reaction force that will be replaced by German troops on July 1.
