Dozens of NATO oil tankers destroyed on Pakistani-Afghan border
Mar 23, 2008, 18:14 GMT
Islamabad - Dozens of tankers carrying oil for NATO forces were destroyed Sunday in a bomb blast targeting a Pakistani border crossing where they awaited clearance to enter Afghanistan, officials said.
'The explosion took place this evening when the oil tankers were parked in the parking lot of Torkham border in the tribal town of Landi Kotal. More than 60 tankers caught fire and 35 of these were completely destroyed,' a government official Bismillah Khan told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
At least two people were killed and more than 50 injured in the attack and the government officials deployed at the border crossing vacated the compound, he added.
The Afghan National Army had dispatched two fire brigade vehicles as the fire had spread to more vehicles.
Many of the tankers carrying oil for NATO in Afghanistan come through Khyber pass in tribal area adjoining Peshawer, the capital of North-West Frontier Province (NWFP).
They have been increasingly targeted by Taliban insurgents operating along the border area in recent months.
Up to three oil tankers were either destroyed or damaged every month in similar attacks during the past 12 months, Khan told dpa last week.
Pakistan's tribal areas are believed to be safe-havens for al-Qaeda terrorists and Taliban fighters who fled to the region in 2001 when the United States invaded Afghanistan, where they launched cross border attacks on NATO-led international forces.

Congrats to brave muhajedeen whom old senile scumbag Reagan loved when they were killing our soldiers. A heck of a job, as current Moron-in-Chief would say... Keep on going, guys. Your 72 virgins are waiting for you.

Hi there Russky clown---your facts are very 'skewed'. Reagan gave nothing to our nation's enemies when we knew they were our enemies. Such a military blunder in the Khyber Pass / Peshawar zone clearly tells us we (and Pakistan troops) are closing in moreso now than ever before on the pig Laden and his overpaid suicidist wing nuts. Even the new Pakistani Prime minister will welcome another more intelligent approach to the 'Bedouin rats' currently hiding in the mountains. The real moron-in-chief, Clinton couldn't shoot straight no matter how many times he tried but GW won't miss the next time----drones will likely finish the scumbag bin Laden sometime this spring----- If the special forces dont get to him first.
We are draining the terrorists at a high rate now both there and inside Iraq. Don't let the erratic American media kid you, the people of the United states are willing and eager to complete the job of erasing these thieves and murderers from the face of the planet and, we will.
If I was Ahmadinejad, I would keep my bodyguards close, very close
also. His shenanigans yesterday inside IRAQ were found out by our military and evidence is now clear, that he is singularly responsible for military meddling [weapons/trainings origins]. Must be feeling his oats now that he (barely) got reelected.
