Pakistan troops kill 18 militants in tribal region
Mar 12, 2009, 15:36 GMT
Islamabad - Helicopter gunships Thursday pounded militants hideouts in Pakistan's tribal region that borders Afghanistan, killing at least 18 rebels, said a security official.
'Several positions of the militants were destroyed in the action that took place in three areas,' said an official of the Mohmand Rifles, the paramilitary force deployed in the area.
'At least 18 militants were killed and scores of others injured,' added the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The security action came five days after Islamist insurgents killed 14 tribal policemen in an ambush on a security convoy in the district, a safe-haven of Taliban and al-Qaeda militants launching cross border attacks on US-led international forces in Afghanistan.

Well Done, Mohmand Rifles!!!! Pakistan is showing the rest of the world that they are and will continue to bring the fight to the desperate Taliban in numbers that are hurting them. The Tribal region no longer offers guaranteed shelter in the winter or any other time of the year!!
Congratulations to the leaders of the US led /Afghan/ Pakistani troops as well in their persistence in remaining on the offense for the long term. Soon, we will learn of the finding of bin Laden's sickly carcass as proof that there truly is NOWHERE TO HIDE. The Bedouin murderer is no doubt running out of bodyguards and his fellow cavedwellers can certainly know that their end is near.
