US official visits Bangladesh to explore prospect of cooperation
Jun 13, 2009, 14:10 GMT
Dhaka - A senior US official arrived in Dhaka Saturday to discuss cooperation with Bangladesh following government changes in both countries.
Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O Blake was to take stock of political developments following Bangladesh's return to democracy in January after two years of military-backed rule.
He was to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed, opposition leader Khaleda Zia, Home Minister Sahara Khatun, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, and lawmakers from both sides of the political divide plus business leaders during his two-day stay.
'In each of these meetings, the Assistant Secretary will discuss new opportunities for cooperation between the United States and Bangladesh,' said a US embassy press statement.
