Oct 20, 2009, 13:56 GMT
Washington - US President Barack Obama hailed Tuesday the announcement by Afghan president Hamid Karzai of a run-off vote nest month.
Obama called the announcement an 'important precedent' that would help bring credibility to the electoral process.
'President Karzai's actions established an important precedent for Afghanistan's new democracy,' Obama said in a statement.
'The Afghan Constitution and laws are strengthened' by the decision to hold a run-off, he added.
