UN congratulates Afghan leader's inauguration

New York - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon sent Thursday congratulations to re-elected Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who pledged to fight corruption and improve governance and security at his inauguration for a second four-year term.
'In pursuance of realizing these goals concretely, the UN looks forward to working with President Karzai and his government, the people of Afghanistan, and Afghanistan's international partners,' Ban said in a statement.
'The secretary general sends his best wishes to the president and to the people of Afghanistan at this critical juncture in their history and reaffirms the determination of the UN to support Afghanistan's progress towards peace, stability and development.'
