Cotabato City, Philippines - A Pakistani businessman escaped his kidnappers a day after he was seized in the southern Philippines, a provincial police chief said Saturday.
Waseen Sajjad Kahan, a moneylender, was abducted by unidentified gunmen Wednesday in Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao province, 930 kilometres south of Manila, according to Senior Superintendent Alex Lineses.
The suspects robbed the victim of his motorcycle and 25,000 pesos (550 dollars), and held him at an isolated farm in the village of Dalican.
Lineses said Kahan ran away from his captors who were lax in guarding him late Thursday, and made it to a camp of former Muslim rebels, also in Dalican.
They turned Kahan over to Cotabato City Mayor Muslimin Sema, who was a former rebel leader.
Lineses said investigators were still trying to determine the identity of the kidnappers.
