Eleven Danish soldiers injured in Afghanistan attack
May 5, 2010, 9:46 GMT
Copenhagen - Eleven Danish soldiers were injured in an attack on a base in southern Afghanistan, the Danish military command said Wednesday.
Initial reports suggested the assailants used grenades in the attack late Tuesday in the restive Helmand province.
A subsequent sandstorm had prevented the immediate evacuation of the injured soldiers to a hospital at Camp Bastion by helicopter.
At least two of the soldiers are expected to airlifted to Denmark for treatment, the military said.
Denmark has a 750-strong contingent based mainly in Helmand province. Thirty-one Danish soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since 2002.
