Police: Bomb kills four civilians in southern Afghanistan
Jun 28, 2010, 10:34 GMT
Kabul - Four civilians were killed and four injured when their minivan was struck by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan Monday, a police official said.
The vehicle was en route to the capital of Ghanzi province from Andar district Monday morning when it was blown up by the mine, Khial Baz Sherzai, the provincial police chief, said.
The four wounded were evacuated to a provincial hospital, he said. Their condition was critical.
No group took responsibility for the bombing, which bore the hallmark of Taliban militants, who rely heavily on roadside attacks as part of their insurgency against the government and the more than 130,000 US-led international troops in the country.
These bombings increased by 94 per cent in the first four months of this year compared to the same period in 2009, according to the United Nations.
