Bangladeshi police detain suspected Islamist militants
Oct 4, 2010, 13:14 GMT
Dhaka - Bangladeshi police have arrested a Pakistani national suspected of being the local head of militant Islamist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba along with two of his aides in the capital Dhaka, officials said Monday.
The detectives detained Khurram alias Mohammad Selim, the suspected Bangladesh coordinator of the outlawed group, and his associates at a city hotel Saturday night, Assistant Police Commissioner Golam Azad told reporters.
Lashkar-e-Taiba is a Pakistan-based militant organisation.
The suspected militants were allegedly also linked with the Jamaat-ul-Mujahedin Bangladesh, an outlawed organisation responsible for a number of terrorist attacks in Bangladesh between 2003 and 2006.
