Polish soldier killed on patrol in Afghanistan

Warsaw - A Polish soldier died and another was injured in Afghanistan Thursday after their patrol was attacked by mortar fire, the Defence Ministry in Warsaw said.
Adam Szada-Borzyszkowski, 28, was shot while patrolling a highway in the eastern Ghazni province. Another soldier was injured and air- lifted to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, the ministry said.
Szada-Borzyszkowski is the 22nd Polish soldier killed in NATO operations against Taliban insurgents.
Poland has some 2,600 troops in Afghanistan in the NATO mission, which it joined in March 2002.
Newly elected President Bronislaw Komorowski pledged in his campaign to withdraw Polish troops by 2012.
