Islamabad - A moderate earthquake Thursday rattled northern Pakistan', injuring five children, government officials and media reports said.
Jolts with a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter Scale were felt across the north-western province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as well as in the capital Islamabad.
Arif Mehmod, the chief meteorologist, said the quake occurred at a depth of about 172 kilometers and its epicentre was located at the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border about 280 kilometers north-west of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Local media reported that at least five schoolchildren were injured when the roof of their class room collapsed in Shabqadar district.
At least 73,000 people were killed and several hundred thousand became homeless in October 2005, when a strong earthquake shook northern Pakistan and the Himalayan region of Kashmir.
