Oct 31, 2010, 16:41 GMT
Kathmandu - US adventurer Sean Burch has set a new record for the fastest crossing of Nepal on foot, the Nepal Tourism Board said Sunday.
Burch, 40, trekked 2,000 kilometres through high-altitude peaks in 49 days, six hours and eight minutes.
The trek across The Great Himalayan Trail was designed to promote mountain tourism in the country.
Burch overcame blinding snowstorms, landslides, high altitude sickness, leeches, hypothermia and physical and mental exhaustion.
The current estimated time for the trek, which cuts across Nepal from east to west, is just over 150 days.
