China asks Nepal to bar political activity by Tibetans
Mar 28, 2011, 6:15 GMT
Kathmandu - Chinese security officials have asked Nepal to bar Tibetans from entering its border district of Sindhupalchowk, local media reported Monday.
Chinese authorities fear the Tibetans will resort to anti-China activities to mark the Dalai Lama's 52nd anniversary in exile, The Himalayan Times reported.
At a meeting in the border town of Khasa, Chinese officials informed Nepali authorities that Tibetans had decided to celebrate the exile anniversary on Monday.
'They urged us not to allow anti-Chinese activities in our soil,' Sindhupalchowk chief district officer Bishnu Kumar Karki said.
A Chinese military delegation under army chief Chen Bingde visited Nepal last week. The two sides agreed to 'deepen military ties' and 'ensure peace at the Tibet frontier.'
China also pledged medical and logistics support to Nepal's army.
