Mar 30, 2011, 15:09 GMT
Kabul - A suicide bomber attacked a convoy of NATO-led troops in the north-eastern Afghan province of Kapisa, while a NATO soldier died in a separate attack in the same region, officials said Wednesday.
According to initial information, at least four people were wounded in the attack that took place in Tagaab district, close to the capital Kabul, Abdul Hakim Akhundzada, the district governor, said. He did not identify the victims.
Aziz Rahman Tawab, the acting provincial governor said that two French soldiers were also injured and two of their military tanks were damaged in the suicide bombing.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid took responsibility for the attack in a statement sent to the media. He claimed that 13 French soldiers were killed in the bombing that was carried out by one of their fighters, Abdul Rahman Dehsabzwal.
The bomber detonated his explosive-laden car close to a six- vehicle convoy that had parked in the Tatarkhel area of the district.
Mujahid said four civilians were also injured in the attack.
NATO was not immediately available for comment. Most of the NATO troops stationed in the districts are from France.
Separately, a NATO soldier was killed in an insurgent attack in eastern region, the military said in a statement on Wednesday.
The soldier, whose nationality was withheld, died Tuesday, the same day five other foreign troops lost their lives in separate attacks in Afghanistan.
