New Delhi - At least 10 workers were killed when a fire broke out in footwear factory in New Delhi, police said Friday.
'Ten bodies have been pulled out from the premises of the factory which was gutted in the blaze,' area police chief Rajesh Kumar said. 'Operations are continuing at the scene and the death toll could rise as there could be more bodies inside,' he added.
Police officers said 10 workers from the three-storey building in the city's western area of Peeragarhi were still missing.
Around 80 people were at work when the fire broke out Wednesday night. Firefighters brought the blaze under control only by late Thursday.
Authorities said the factory was operating without a fire safety licence and the police had launched a search for the owner of the factory who fled after the incident.
