India lists 50 most-wanted fugitives allegedly in Pakistan
May 11, 2011, 11:33 GMT
New Delhi(dpa) - India has prepared a list of its 50 most-wanted fugitives allegedly hiding in Pakistan, including several terrorists behind deadly attacks in India, news reports said Wednesday.
Hafiz Saeed, alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people, topped the list that was delivered to Pakistani authorities, the NDTV network reported.
The list also included militant leaders from the Lashkar-e-Taiba and army officials suspected of involvement in the attack, it said.
Mumbai crime lord Dawood Ibrahim, alleged mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai bombings, and 20 other members from his group also feature in the list prepared by the federal Home Ministry.
Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar, a key suspect in the 2001 attack on the Indian parliament after his release in exchange of hostages in the 1999 Indian Airlines hijacking, is also mentioned in the list.
Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin and alleged al-Qaeda operative Illyas Kashmiri as well as some Sikh militant leaders were also mentioned.
India has repeatedly asked Pakistani authorities to extradite fugitives in the past but Islamabad has denied that the terrorists and criminals were on its soil.
New Delhi described Pakistan as a sanctuary for terrorists in the aftermath of bin Laden's killing, and has urged Pakistan not to allow its territory to be used for attacks against India.
