Kunduz, Afghanistan - A suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a mosque in the northern Afghan province of Kunduz Friday, causing an unknown number of casualties, a government spokesman said.
The attack took place in the compound of the Rustaqabad mosque in provincial capital, also called Kunduz, said Mahboobullah Sayedi, a spokesman for the governor.
The target of the attack appeared to be the province's police chief, Samaiullah Qatra, who was inside the mosque, but he survived the attack, the spokesman said.
'There were casualties,' Sayedi said but could not provide any figures.
