Afghan, NATO forces kill 13 militants who occupied school
Jul 17, 2011, 12:11 GMT
Kabul - Thirteen militants who occupied a school in eastern Afghanistan were killed by Afghan and NATO military forces, an official said Sunday.
'A number of armed men occupied a school building and started firing on district headquarters and nearby locations,' a statement from the provincial governor's office said.
The attack took place in Khewai district, Nangarhar province early Sunday.
All the militants hiding in the school were believed to have been killed, the statement said, adding that neither civilians nor security forces were injured in the attack.
A NATO spokesman said an Afghan-led joint security force had killed more than 10 insurgents in Nangarhar.
Air support was called in and the building was completely destroyed, he said.
