Britain to probe claim of Taliban fighters' fingers as "souvenirs"
Aug 8, 2011, 13:54 GMT
London - The British government is investigating claims that a soldier serving in Afghanistan collected fingers of dead Taliban fighters and kept them as 'trophies' and souvenirs, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in London said Monday.
The allegations, made against a soldier believed to be from The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, were being taken 'very seriously,' a statement said.
They are linked to the regiment's latest tour of duty in Afghanistan, which ended in April this year.
'This is a very serious allegation and it would be wrong for us to comment. An investigation is ongoing,' a spokesman for the MoD said.
