Land dispute leaves three Afghans dead, three injured
Aug 9, 2011, 9:32 GMT
Kabul - Three Afghans were killed and three others injured Tuesday over a land dispute in Kabul province's Bagrami district, officials said.
The dispute was over a piece of land where local nomads were residing. They accused businessman Haji Mirwais of grabbing the land to build a residential complex.
'The land dispute has left three people killed and three injured in Bagrami district after which the protestors came to Kabul for a demonstration,' city police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai said.
Locals clashed with the guards of Mirwais, whose brother is a parliamentarian in the lower house. Police declined to say how the deaths occurred.
There was a protest in front of the presidential palace.
The Ministry of Interior said it had cordoned off the area where the initial clash took place and police were looking for illegal weapons in the area.
Disputes over the grabbing of land by former warlords and influential figures have become common in Afghanistan, leading to several deaths.
