Los Angeles - After decades at the pinnacle of Bollywood stardom, veteran Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan is joining Hollywood royalty such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire in the 125 million dollar production of The Great Gatsby, Warner Bros has announced.
Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) is directing the 3-D adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel of high-living socialites in the roaring 1920's, which began shooting in Australia this week. While DiCaprio will play millionaire Jay Gatsby, Bachchan will play Meyer Wolfsheim, a shadowy Jewish gambler and troublemaker, who plays a decisive role in the making of Gatsby's fortune.
Bachchan, 68, has appeared in over 180 Bollywood movies and was also the host of the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. He has won four National Film Awards and fourteen FilmFare Awards.
