Road crash kills 11 in Bangladesh
Sep 25, 2011, 13:08 GMT
Dhaka - At least 11 people were killed in a road accident in Bangladesh's south-western Magura district Sunday, police reported.
Eleven out of 12 passengers in one vehicle died on the spot when a speeding truck collided with the passenger vehicle in Chattrish, some 104 kilometres from the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, district police chief Proloy Chisim said.
Angry villagers barricaded the Magura-Khulna highway after the accident, halting movements on the road, which links the capital with the country's south-western districts.
Bangladesh has one of the world's highest road fatality rates, with some 4,000 vehicular deaths every year, due to reckless driving, poor road infrastructure and lax monitoring of laws.
