Woman injured during India police crackdown dies
Sep 26, 2011, 11:18 GMT
New Delhi - A woman seriously injured in a police crackdown on a protest in June died Monday, officials said.
Rajbala, 51, was undergoing treatment for spinal injuries sustained during the crackdown in New Delhi.
Doctors at the city's Govind Ballabh Pant hospital said Rajbala had undergone surgery and was on a ventilator since June.
'The federal government and the home ministry are directly responsible for her death,' yoga guru Baba Ramdev said. 'The police couldn't have committed such a crime without directions from the home ministry.'
Ramdev led the June 4 protest with a public hunger strike to demand anti-corruption measures, including the repatriation of money held illegally by Indians in foreign banks.
His protest in New Delhi was broken up by police that night, and he returned to his hermitage in Hardwar.
