Seven killed in Kashmir clash between militants, police
Sep 27, 2011, 10:33 GMT
Srinagar, Kashmir - Four suspected Islamist militants and three policemen were killed in a clash in India-administered Kashmir, officials said Tuesday.
A team of police and soldiers surrounded a militant hideout in a forest in the northern Kupwara district Monday night.
'While two militants and an equal number of policemen were killed on Monday, two more militants and a policeman were killed in the combat Tuesday,' local police official VK Birdi said.
One soldier was also injured.
Birdi said the combat was continuing and reinforcements had been sent to the scene.
More than 45,000 people including civilians, militants and security forces have been killed in the secessionist insurgency in India-administered Kashmir.
India has accused Pakistan of aiding the militants. Pakistan denies denied the charge, calling the combatants freedom fighters.
