Oct 16, 2011, 10:50 GMT
Kabul - A senior government official in eastern Afghanistan escaped unhurt in an assassination attempt Sunday, an official said.
The governor of eastern province of Paktia Juma Khan Hamdard was attacked by several assailants when he arrived at his office by car Sunday afternoon, Rohullah Samoon, the governor's spokesman said.
'Governor himself was unhurt but one police officer, and one employee of the municipality were killed and four civilians were wounded.'
The attackers first tried to storm the municipality building but attacked the governor when he arrived at his office, Samoon said.
'We have three dead bodies of the insurgents right now but we suspect that they were four and one of them has escaped,' he said, adding it was 'a failed attack against the governor'.
