Dhaka - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Dhaka Sunday, his first stop on a three-nation Asian tour to promote United Nations programmes and visit Bangkok's flood-affected areas.
Ban was to survey Bangladesh's progress in maternal and child health care in rural communities, and visit the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research during his three-day visit.
He was also scheduled to meet the families of Bangladeshi soldiers killed in UN peacekeeping missions.
The UN leader is to address a climate change conference in which representatives of 32 countries from the Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific will be present.
He is to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed and President Muhammad Zillur Rahman before flying to Thailand on Tuesday.
