India presses Pakistan for justice on Mumbai attack anniversary
Nov 26, 2011, 8:22 GMT
New Delhi - India urged Pakistan to bring perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attack to 'speedy justice' as the country marked the third anniversary on Saturday.
As many as 166 people were killed in the attack by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba group, which targeted Mumbai's main railway station, luxury hotels as well as a Jewish centre.
Nine of the 10 gunmen who laid siege to India's financial hub were also killed. Surviving militant Ajmal Kasab is in a Mumbai jail.
External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said sufficient evidence had been provided by India's Home Ministry to prosecute Pakistan-based militant leaders who plotted the attacks.
'We are still waiting for Pakistan to act decisively to bring to justice the perpetrators of the mindless violence that was unleashed on Mumbai,' Krishna said in New Delhi.
'I once again call on our neighbour to bring the perpetrators of the crime to speedy justice,' Krishna said.
India has been dissatisfied with Pakistan on the lack of progress regarding the trial of seven militant leaders arrested in Pakistan in connection with the attacks.
None of the suspects, including the alleged key plotter Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, have been convicted so far.
