Dec 20, 2011, 5:13 GMT
Kathmandu- More than 22 people have died during a cold wave in southern Nepal, local media reported Tuesday.
In Mohattari district, 14 had died since Sunday, according to Avenues Television. Two hundred schools were closed in the district and the local hospital was packed with pneumonia patients.
Eight people had died in other districts of the Tarai region.
The Nepal Electricity Authority also declared 10 hours of power cuts per day, starting Tuesday. The state owned-utility blamed receding water levels in reservoirs that drive hydropower plants.
