US Defence Secretary Panetta condemns Afghan urination video
Jan 12, 2012, 15:50 GMT
Washington - US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta on Thursday strongly condemned a video showing US soldiers urinating on what appeared to be the bodies of Afghan insurgents, and said he had ordered an investigation.
'I have seen the footage, and I find the behaviour depicted in it utterly deplorable. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms,' Panetta said in a statement.
He said he had ordered the Marine Corps and International Security Assistance Force Commander General John Allen to investigate the incident.
'This conduct is entirely inappropriate for members of the United States military and does not reflect the standards or values our armed forces are sworn to uphold,' Panetta said.
