15 killed in bus crash in northern India
Jan 13, 2012, 13:43 GMT
New Delhi - At least 15 people were killed after a passenger bus skidded off an icy road in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh, police said Friday.
The bus rolled down a 300-metre gorge near Nerwa, 120 kilometres south-east of state capital Shimla on Thursday night.
'Eleven passengers died on the scene, while four more succumbed to injuries at hospitals today,' said a local police officer who requested anonymity.
Twenty-one injured passengers were being treated at nearby hospitals. The death toll could climb as some people had sustained serious injuries, the officer said.
The Shimla region has experienced heavy snowfall in the past few days and police said the accident could have been caused due to poor visibility and tough driving conditions.
