Nepalese police charge ex-minister with kidnap
Jan 17, 2012, 14:59 GMT
Kathmandu - A Nepalese parliamentarian and former cabinet minister appeared in court on Tuesday, charged with masterminding the abduction of a businessman.
Shyam Sundar Gupta denied the charges and accused other political parties of 'conspiring' against him. The district court in Kathmandu ordered him to be held in custody for four days while further investigations are conducted.
Gupta is accused of masterminding the abduction of a businessman, Pawan Sanghai, who was released after the payment of a huge ransom earlier this month.
The former minister was arrested late on Monday night, while he was helping prepare for his son's wedding in south-west Nepal.
