Kabul - An Afghan soldier opened fire on a group of French soldiers in north-eastern Afghanistan on Friday, killing four and injuring 16 others, an Afghan security official said.
The official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that an Afghan National Army soldier carried out the attack at a joint Afghan and coalition forces military base.
The shooting took place in Tagab district of Kapisa province, where the bulk of France's soldiers are stationed, he said.
'Abdul Saboor, the shooter, has been arrested by the coalition forces,' he said.
The deaths bring to over 80 the number of French soldiers killed in Afghanistan since 2001.
France has about 3,600 troops in Afghanistan.
