Rushdie cancels Indian festival video link
Jan 24, 2012, 11:10 GMT
New Delhi - Author Salman Rushdie has cancelled plans to join a literary festival in India via video link due to security concerns, organisers announced Tuesday.
Individuals opposed to Rushdie's participation have entered the Diggi Palace in Jaipur where the festival was scheduled, and other members of Islamic groups were heading towards it, the venue's owner said, citing police information.
Ram Pratap Singh said he was forced to withdraw permission for the videolink discussion out of concern for the security of the thousands of participants.
Rushdie, who had already cancelled a planned appearance in person due to assassination threats, was scheduled to participate in the event via video from London late Tuesday.
