Suicide bomber kills three Afghan civilians, injures dozens
Jan 26, 2012, 7:57 GMT
Kabul - A suicide bomber on Thursday blew himself up near NATO and government offices in southern Afghanistan, killing at least three civilians, a government spokesman said.
The bombing took place in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand province, in a bazaar where the NATO-led Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) and Afghan education department are located.
Daud Ahamdi, the provincial governor's spokesman, said three civilians including a child were killed and 31 others including three women were wounded.
'The target of the suicide car bomber was apparently a civilian vehicle of the PRT in Lashkargah city, in which a foreign woman was wounded,' Ahmadi said.
Helmand is a stronghold of the Taliban militants. They often carry out bombings against Afghan officials and government installations.
